About me
Danique Jaspers (NL, 1991) is a photographer and filmmaker. She graduated at Maastricht Academy of Media Design and Technology in 2016 and hasn’t stopped devouring photography books and film noirs since. Her love for art history and its symbolism was fueled by her father and grandfather, who would take her on trips to classical art museums and exhibitions. Later, Danique also became intrigued by the works of iconic photographers like Man Ray, Brassaï, Vivian Maier, and Inez & Vinoodh – inspiring her to create timeless, minimalistic and meaningful photos and films. Pictures that not only please the eye, but also tell a story. Films by her were shown at (inter)national film festivals. In 2019, her short film Nectar premiered at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In 2020, her prize-winning poetry film Architectuur van het vrije lichaam was screened on Dutch national TV (VPRO), and was included in the digital exhibition Corona in de stad at Amsterdam Museum. • (NL) Architectuur van het vrije lichaam
(NL) Architectuur van het vrije lichaamIn honour of Liberation day Adriana Ivanova and I had the opportunity to make a spoken word film about the psychical and mental freedom in quarantine life. In a very short time we tried to create something that could offer comfort, hope and recognition in these strange times where ‘freedom’ gets another meaning. Because how can we be free when we are in lockdown? Our film won the category 'Best Spoken Word' of the Open Call by 4 en 5 mei comité Amsterdam en de Balie
  • NECTAR
NECTARWhen is enough, enough? Facing prolonged suffering, a young, terminally ill woman bravely decides to take control over her own life and arranges herself a peculiar yet delicious meal. Nectar (2019) is an all-female production about a young, terminally ill woman facing her final days. The filmmakers – both having seen a loved one being encouraged by doctors and family to suffer through life-prolonging treatments – urge viewers to reflect upon the end-of-life-dilemma that many of us will have to
  • Reality check
Reality checkReality is an abstract and very complex concept. We all know what it means, but as soon as we try to explain it we realise it's not that simple. Every day we get harassed with information: digitally, via newspapers, radio, internet. A lot of us think that these news sources are telling the truth. But how reliable are these sources and are they actually telling us the truth? This documentary is about a student looking for the meaning of 'reality'. During her research she meets a guy who wants to

Image and media are important aspects of our culture. In order to attain our communication goals – getting the message across – we use media in all sorts of different ways. But at the end of the day, it’s all about this: why am I telling my story, how do I tell it, what do I tell it with, when, and to whom? Within Visual Communication, you can chose from four specialisations, each using a different communication medium: Film, Photography, Graphic design and Illustration. It’s your job to convey your message as a designer using your design. This works more powerfully than text alone. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
