About me
David-Lee Badger is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Belfast. Upon graduating with a degree in fine art, he created commissioned artwork, participated in exhibitions and ran a small clothing company before deciding to focus in on his design practice. As of 2015, he started a blog focusing on the creative community in Belfast. From there, he began taking on more clients, working on projects for musicians, tattooists, arts organisations, charities and new businesses. He runs the longest established monthly Drink & Draw event in Ireland as part of Loft Belfast. He’s passionate about solving problems through the medium of design.
Projects
  • Overset
OversetRising Liverpool based pop punk band Overset needed a visual presence to compliment their raw energetic sound. We approached this branding and identity project by tackling elements in a systematic way. We created a custom typeface for the wordmark and the emblem, strong enough to function alone and malleable enough to allow for an array of lockups. The colour palette and merchandise designs came about in response to listening to their debut EP before its release. Seeing sounds, if you will.
  • Bia Rebel Ramen
Bia Rebel RamenWe’ve know the rough and ready crew at Bia Rebel since their early days at St. George’s Market, helping them to refine their (anti) image from noodle slinging market stall, to van traders and finally bricks and mortar dwellers on Ormeau Road. We rebranded the guys at Bia Rebel Ramen having previously done some promotional work for their social media along with illustrations that were turned into decals for their old food truck. The Bia Rebel noodle girl (below) has seen a pretty wide spectrum
  • Game of Thrones Sigil
Game of Thrones SigilWe were asked to create a sigil for the crew jackets of the Dothraki unit on Game of Thrones finale season. Here’s the initial concept and a shot of the final piece. Through a process of iteration and refinement we arrived at our final lockup for the design. It was a delicate task combining the required elements in a smart, cohesive way. If only we could have one for ourselves.
  • Visual Artists Ireland Open Studios Leaflet
Visual Artists Ireland Open Studios LeafletVAI asked us to design the map/information leaflet for their yearly "Open Studios" event. We created an A3 map that folds to an A5 information pamphlet. Liaising with a local photographer, we aimed to capture the essence of Open Studios to deliver both digital and traditional print marketing campaigns. We handled the project from inception to completion, designing for print and packing in all the relevant information for potential visitors to all the participating studios.
  • Rossa Murray and the blowin' winds
Rossa Murray and the blowin' windsWe created a host of material for this Liverpool based singer songwriter and his band. We had a great time playing with a couple of logo variations, ideations for album artwork and potential merchandise. Check it out.

    Belfast, United KingdomFull Time
This is the moniker I began using for all of my creative endeavours from 2015 onwards. Deadbeat was born out of the desire to work for myself. It started with the idea that I could document the creative community in Belfast whilst offering my services as a graphic designer and illustrator. I created a blog, interviewing local artists, musicians and business owners, reviewed exhibition openings and films and started hosting events in my city. From there, my client base grew. My clients include HBO, University of Ulster, Visual Artists Ireland, Boundary Brewing Co. and Bia Rebel Ramen.

One of the founding members of this Belfast based studio. The space was formerly used as a working studio by day, but we also curated and managed exhibitions, gigs, drawing events and open studio days. Although the collective no longer has a studio space, I still run a monthly Drink & Draw event in Town Square, Belfast and Maverick, Belfast. Find us on social @loftbelfast.
