I am an Assistant Buyer working in the luxury fashion industry. I am a creative, self-motivated and determined individual with a strong analytical mind and an eye for detail. I strive to achieve the best, learn quickly and am easily adaptable. In my work, I facilitate with report analysis and planning, negotiating trading terms, meeting with suppliers and managing my assistant. I help to maximise opportunity in the department by trading in season and have helped to grow the department by 10% since I started in my position. My degree in Psychology has elicited deep thinking, emotional intelligence and extreme interest in people and building working and client relationships. In my spare time, I enjoy reading books, gallery visits and art classes, running, meeting new people and travel. At present I work as an Assistant Buyer for Harvey Nichols for International Women's Footwear. I worked on the department without a Buyer for the last five months which has meant I have had a larger influence and more responsibility in running the department. My responsibilities are: • Providing my Buyer/Fashion Director with trading figures and analysis for the week including trading plans of any transfers, repeats, swaps or returns I intend to fulfil • Support the Buyer/Fashion Director in appointments by providing the relevant analysis of product and delivery and provide opinions on selections • Support the Buyer/Fashion Director with placing orders, and quantifying and sizing buys • Keeping in close contact with our store managers and visiting store on a weekly basis to help with the brand and product positioning and selections across the department • Managing my Buying Administrator to ensure that her weekly tasks are carried out in a professional and timely manner • Maintain trading logs, OTB and FPSS trackers • Attending strategy days and facilitate in planning • Proactively checking online and store allocations on a weekly basis and looking at weekly intake to ensure we are in a good stock position each week • Checking competitors regularly to allow an understanding of the wider market product selection and noticing where competitors deliveries lie • Sourcing new and innovative product and brands and suggesting where appropriate to the Buyer • Keeping up to date with social media and latest fashion trends and news and brand information across the industry
I worked just shy of 2 years as a Buying Administrator. I worked across all footwear categories, including the Contemporary Women’s sneaker market and Contemporary Footwear on Menswear. I was responsible for the following: • Ensuring purchased orders are raised and deliveries are tracked and chased each week • Resolving warehouse and store queries • Maintain trading logs, OTB and FPSS trackers • Trade numerous brands and recognise best and worst performing brands/styles • Pull sales/stock reports and analysis the data to create meaningful spreadsheets for trade • Trade the department by conducting stock swaps, repeats, returns and cancellations • Negotiate trade and buying terms and discounts with brands • Manage continuity stock levels across sizes and stores, placing regular repeats and transfers where necessary • Communicate to my AB and Buyers any necessary and relevant information • Managed interns workloads and responsibilities • Conducting COMP shops, store visits and checking competitors websites for new in deliveries and retail prices • I have attended all London based buying appointments for Women’s Sneakers for AW16 • I have aided and lead the selection of products, quantified and sized buys • I visit trade shows around the city and have attended many seasons of both London Fashion Week and London Collections Men • I follow blogs and keep up to date with trends and emerging designers
I interned for Harvey Nichols. My time was spent in Women’s Contemporary and Denim Collections where I gained valuable insight in this category. My key duties included: • Create weekly packs of BOXI reports for the buying team • Refresh sell through reports and sales plans • Email each brand’s figures to their relevant suppler • Maintain order log and delivery log • Raise purchase orders • Liaise with the stores and suppliers to request and raise credit notes for quality control issues and returns • Filing and organising all paperwork
I worked as a Sales Associate in Harrods Shoe Heaven for Kurt Geiger. I learnt much about luxury retail and the spending behaviours of customers.
I gained important experience of the fashion industry and specifically in the Women’s Contemporary market during my time as an intern at Indigofera Distributions. My passion for this side of the business started here. My main roles were as follows: • Replenishing and merchandising the collections in the showroom • Placing sales orders • Processing returns and liaising with the warehouse and accounts team • Arranging stock swaps and shipments of orders • Chasing customer orders and payments • Updating product information on our systems • Sending out press updates, look books and samples to customers • Arranging courier services • Researching and finding potential new customers • Attending press days and events
My degree in psychology has provided me with a vast range of transferable skills. These include skills in communication, numeracy, statistics and research methodology as well as a sound understanding in human behaviour. During my final year at university I was a research assistant for a post graduate psychology student. My main roles were administrative work. I gained 1st in my dissertation.
