About me
Dovydas Arlauskas has recently graduated from the University of East London where he studied photography. His education also includes studies in Interactive media and art at Leeds City college.
Experienced in working with all mediums of photography from large format field cameras to high end digital Hasselblad's. Commercial still life is what Dovydas specialises in. From a young age he showed interest in construction and building, from that a passion for craft emerged in his photography. Ansel Adams said "You don't take a photograph, you make it." and that's exactly what Dovydas does, he makes his own props and sets which he then incorporates into his shots.
Projects
- ChromophobiaChromophobia Chromophobia explores the synthetic luminescence that surrounds us within the urban landscape in our everyday lives. The added artificial light in a natural setting disaffiliates it from its familiar context as a functional necessity to have us consider the symbolic significance of light and colour. The juxtaposition of geometry amongst organic surroundings is suggestive of a gateway onto a future time, when the synthetic glow of man-kind reaches areas previously unspoiled.
- ConstructThe theme of this brief is inspired from Foam Magazine issue #15 'Construct’, featuring and discussing works that show tension between fantasy and reality, an alternate, constructed reality. This series is about addiction. Every single one of these images represents a chapter or a time period in my life where I was exposed to these addictions, not necessarily me being addicted to them, but having an encounter.
