About me
I graduated with a 2:1 (BA) in Architecture from Newcastle University in 2016. I spent the year 2016-2017 working as a Junior Interior Designer. I am interested in an Architecture that uses both the overall building - from transitional spaces to the FF & E (furniture, fittings and equipment) - and its site to dictate how the space is used. I consider the harmony between construction and interior design to be as integral to the success of the final product as is the relationship between the building and the world that immediately surrounds it, as well as the user experience. I am also passionate about art, design, music and travel. I visit as many exhibitions as possible, tie- dye my own bedding and make clothes for myself. I have also spent many years at festivals, either working as a volunteer or attending. Volunteering gave me the amazing opportunity to see both the site and stages before they were fully built and I gained an insight into festival design.

    Junior Interior DesignerLouise Jones Interiors
     - Richmond, United KingdomFull Time
I was always interested in interior design as an undergraduate. Following graduation, I undertook two weeks work experience with Louise Jones, a top 100 interior designer. I succeeded in obtaining the offer of a full time job as a Junior Interior Designer (after temping). While working there, I gained an appreciation of the interconnection between architecture and interior design. I led two projects. I worked closely with the architects and engineers and together we succeeded in manipulating the existing spaces to meet the requirements of our clients. For these projects, I developed multiple schemes and furniture layouts. I also illustrated these for the clients and I produced mood boards which bought together wall finishes, fabrics and furniture to present a cohesive design. In one of the projects I was working on, I collaborated with an illustrator and we jointly produced visuals for the client. I was also a junior working on a large scale estate in Scotland. This project included a 48 room house as well as a hotel (consisting of 13 suites, and two self-catered apartments). This project was more advanced than the two that I led. I selected the lighting, organised deliveries, created schedules as well as order fabrics. This part of my job was highly rewarding as I saw the designs, some of which I helped to develop, come to life during my multiple site visits. I also had to co-ordinate with the contractors, decorators, clients, and other specialised designers (such as motorised drapery experts) to create a house which the clients, with their children, would be proud of. The three projects that I was on were typical of the kind Louise undertakes. My experience there has given me a better understanding of the need for a team- based multi-disciplinary approach to the creation of a beautiful, usable building, as well as an appreciation for bringing together multiple materials and textures to create a more interesting and atmospheric space.
