Captivating and concise. Focused and persuasive. I love writing and the power of words to inform, instruct, move and convince. With a background in teaching and a degree in Creative Writing, I have experienced writing for a wide variety of purposes and audiences. I consider a brief from all angles and hone in on what is most important, and I can adapt my tone and find the best words to reach the right audiences.
I have recently started a personal blog on which I post about fashion and lifestyle to inspire a young, female audience. The tone is light and conversational, and I always pose questions to prompt discussion. This helps me hone my writing skills and keep my brain ticking over with new creative ideas. I have trained and worked as a primary school teacher for the past four years. Through this I have gained fantastic transferrable skills. The need to hone in on a learning objective and appeal to a range of learners at different levels has taught me to carefully consider the best approach to teaching a new topic, much like approaching a copywriting brief.
I think outside the box and consider a range of approaches.
I pinpoint the key information and the clearest and most engaging way to communicate it to encourage the children to want to learn.
English was my favourite subject to teach:
I taught a range of writing styles for different purposes, for which I would create writing models, demonstrating appropriate tone, language choices and sentence structures.
I taught essential grammar and punctuation knowledge.
I taught and modelled the importance of self-assessment, peer assessment, proof reading and redrafting.
I marked children's work, focusing on the learning objective, and sifted through their writing to identify constructive steps forward.
As a teacher I wrote many formal children’s reports, using concise and carefully considered language.

Product descriptions: I wrote all product descriptions for the website, including tea towels, mugs, cushions, aprons and more. In keeping with the brand identity, I kept the tone humorous and homely and found fun ways of selling the design and functionality of basic products.
Brand stories: I rewrote all the copy for the website, including the brand story and designer profile, maintaining the light and playful tone of the brand.
Blogging: I researched and generated ideas for the blog based on the brand and then wrote relevant posts in a light and playful yet informative tone.
