About me
Print and Fashion Designer Elizabeth-Yemi Akingbade graduated from the prestigious University of The Arts London in 2013. The following year, at the age of 21, she launched fashion label Yemzi with a small range of organic t-shirts. Yemzi’s first ready-to-wear collection (SS16) was released in 2015, setting the premise for a Afro-inspired, print-led, contemporary aesthetic. Tired of seeing Dutch wax enthusiasts limited by the same designs, Elizabeth-Yemi digitally prints exclusive fabrics inspired by West Africa and the diaspora every season. At home in London or on an adventure, Elizabeth-Yemi paints and sketches to inform bold yet intricate designs. Her work is consciously influenced by a British upbringing in the seaside town of Bournemouth with a working-class English foster family, hybridised with the discovery of her rich Nigerian heritage and culture.
