Co-editor and contributor to a fast growing magazine (featured in The Guardian and on BBC World News) focussed on the lives of young women in today’s society. As one of the most popular writers, the founding editor often comments that my articles receive the most views and get some of the best receptions due to their perceptiveness.
Used the software Burli to edit audio and compile scripts. Studio time interviewing and pre-recording bulletins. Wrote multiple articles for online. Found stories, followed up and attended events to record interviews and gain videos and photos for social media/the online site.
Attended daily editorial conferences and contributed thoughts and opinions on topical issues. Compiled research for senior journalists and wrote copy for them to integrate into their articles. Sourced stories and followed up leads, was published multiple times. Interviewed sources and contributed reporting to collaborative articles.
Wrote new copy for the website and brochure upgrade, including new features that the company wanted to push and were prioritising. Wrote the template letters (25 variants) for the wedding planner service ahead of the wedding season, on their most lucrative and integral aspects of the business. Compiled e-shots for upcoming events and to recruit new members for the gym. Created a 3-month backlog of fitness e-shots to be sent out weekly to members.
During the time in the London office, I ran errands for editors and was out attending and reporting on events, interviewing people, meeting deadlines at the end of each day. Developed confidence in being able to talk to strangers on the phone and also approach those on the street for vox-pop articles. Initiative improved as did independence as I had to do most tasks individually and think on my feet when things didn’t go to plan. Have written 25+ articles for The Tab, both for the National and Bristol site, where I worked remotely from the office whilst at university.
