Photos matter. They are visual records of our experiences, ways of sharing beauty, communicating and understanding who we are , and who and what we love. As humans our brains are hard-wired to create and share stories. We need them to help us understand our world.

Before I realised I wanted to photograph the world, I had some great experiences in my working life. I managed an architectural practice in London, studied Spanish in Barcelona and poured beers in Edinburgh. The bulk of my career was managing big clients in the Advertising industry. I've also studied Commerce, Environmental Studies and Photography.

A great photographer moves between the role of observer and participant, as and when required. Sometimes your job is to make people feel at ease with the camera and at other times, to be a fly on the wall. Knowing the difference is what produces great photography.
