About me

I photograph stories. Photos matter. They are visual records of our experiences, ways of sharing beauty, communicating and understanding who we are , and who and what we love. As humans our brains are hard-wired to create and share stories. We need them to help us understand our world. I have the pleasure of running two of my own small businesses... Emily Manos Photography - family photography EMP real people photography - portraits and events Before I realised I wanted to photograph the world, I had some great experiences in my working life. I managed an architectural practice in London, studied Spanish in Barcelona and poured beers in Edinburgh. The bulk of my career was managing big clients in the Advertising industry. I've also studied Commerce, Environmental Studies and Photography. So whats your story? Can i join in?

  • I have the great fortune as a photographer to step into people’s lives, and to capture those moments that become part of our visual language as families, businesses and individuals. I love to shoot real life images using natural light, capturing the gaps as well as the whole. The quiet moments, the unguarded moments, the strong and the soft. emilymanos.photography

  • I've always been drawn to the idea that photography is a form of story telling. At EMP we deliver photography that reflects passion for the job and imagery that is honest and tells the story of that moment in time. A great photographer moves between the role of observer and participant, as and when required. Sometimes your job is to make people feel at ease with the camera and at other times, to be a fly on the wall. Knowing the difference is what produces great photography. Empathy is key to capturing the story.

  • Fun, fast paced and sometimes infuriating, working in ad land was a very fun time in my life. I worked on big accounts in the financial services industry learning constantly working towards new product launches and deadlines. But over 4 years i think my biggest learning was fine tuning my people management and time management skills. I realised business is a lot more about personalities and emotions than I'd ever realised. I know what hard work means now...
