Ethan Bates is a comic artist and animator from Leeds, UK, currently based in London.
Having recently received an MA in Character Animation from UAL (Central St. Martins), Ethan is now looking for work in the world of animation, specifically in areas around rough animation, storyboarding, character design and narrative/storytelling. He has directed over 200 live action and animated videos himself as part of his own highly active art practice.
Ethan's work primarily comprises the writing and drawing of comics - over 500 pages of which he has worked on for various personal projects throughout his life - and working on animations, typically for his showreel or for personal independent projects. Having won a parliamentary award for one of his films in 2014 and successfully launching his independent ongoing comic 'Robosphere' in 2021 he now wishes to turn this creative passion to use in the workplace.
Work history
Marketing Assistant, then Marketing ExecutiveBridgeman Images
- London, United KingdomFull Time
After a successful stint in a startup company purchased by Bridgeman Images I was promoted to the Marketing Team of the parent company as an assistant. The role initially began primarily as a social media management role which included paid ad campaign management, but developed into eshot and newsletter design, as well as contact database organisation and maintenance. Market research was also significant, as was hubspot sales platform training, website design and maintenance. Since 2019, sales team support for our two biggest offices – London and New York – became my primary responsibility and I was promoted to Marketing Manager.
Digital Product Assistant, then Community ExecutiveCultureLabel
- London, United KingdomFull Time
This start up company was a branch of Bridgeman Images, which had acquired it in 2016. Myself and one other individual were working under a manager with strict monthly targets to get the website up to speed and turn a costly website into a profitable asset of the mother company. Initially the role began with creative marketing, including social media campaigns, product photography, website design and video content (i.e. artist interview, product promotion), though after about a year the role became sales focused with less creative direction and responsibilities included sales spreadsheets and finance. Successful elements of the start up were retained and I was promoted to the marketing team of the parent company.
