Hi, I dropped out of a fine art degree recently, due to corona it didn’t seem worth it to do a very practical subject if I could use the studios. The last year of my studies I learnt animation, mainly motion graphics and frame by frame animation and a small amount of 3D. I am now wanting to pursue something that involves the Adobe suite as I’m fairly experienced with after effects, premiere pro, photoshop and illustrator. I just did a BTEC around professionalism in a company, and learnt about the various roles, from PR and marketing, too artist liaison, too creative direction and how they all work within a company. As part of the Factory Futures Academy. Within this course, as a team, we had to create a project of how we would go about making our own festival and I took on the marketing role. This course had prospects of an internship for the Manchester International Festival, however I could not attend due to being in hospital, resulting in not getting a place on the internship scheme. However, I am bouncing back and chasing a career path that highlights my strengths, which this role really seems to do! As a student I lived In London, and know my way around a bit and still have social spheres there, so relocating wouldn’t be a problem for me, also I find being able to meet and work with a team face to face, much more personal and enjoyable. I have an online portfolio of my motion graphics and frame by frame animations, which I hope you get the chance to view. Hoping to hear back from you soon, Ethan Jacobs-Bassett

This is where my artistic drive was unleashed. Having a full time commitment to creating art work was amazing, during my foundation course, I made a huge piece, inspired by one of my favorite artists, Raqib Shaw. During my time at university I actually went to his studio and tried to work for him, however he told me to focus on my degree. This milestone in my life has definitely confirmed to me that I want to pursue a creative role in my career, as I want to do something I am passionate about. I mainly focused on painting in my foundation, which I still do as a hobby, however my inclination is now towards digital creativity. I also crotchet, I’m currently making a blanket!

I am proud to say I was one of the few students who got a full bursary on the prince of Wales bursary fund for MGS. I had an excellent time in school, and had lots of competitive fun playing waterpolo, coming second in the school nationals in 2014 and rugby, being a regular member of the first team. Although it was a long time ago, i think it set a foundation for who I am today, which is a person with strong work ethics in subjects which I am passionate about, and eagerness to learn new things. During my schooling, art, maths and religion and philosophy were my strongest subjects, and during my art degree, I incorporated maths into colour theory and created a subjective was of formulating colour schemes based on geometry! It sounds geeky, and I guess it is, but I really enjoyed it! I also love learning about new culture, I recently have been learning about Islam through a friend who has been teaching me the pillars and some of the culture. I also like to read in my spare time. I’m currently reading the jungle book when I get the chance!
