I have been working in a supplier for 2 years now and in that time I have gone from a studio assistant to assistant designer. In this time I have been helping with customer accounts as well as sending showroom samples to the Far East. Since graduating from university I have been working at Stiletto, a supplier working with high street brands including Asos, Topshop, Next and Debenhams. I started here as the Design Room Coordinator where I was in charge of the following elements:
- Sending designs to the sample rooms.
- Checking samples upon return.
- Measuring and photographing outgoing samples to a high standard for the production department.
- Forwarding samples to customers.
- Creating a bill of materials for each sample, to enable costing’s.
- Making sure customer deadlines are met.
- Responsible for the smooth running and organisation of the department and liaising between all departments and the design director.
For the past 6 months I have been working as a design assistant, still doing all my previously roles but taking on some new roles including:
- Helping with designs sketches.
- Putting through my own samples for the showroom.
- Working directly with Vietnam, designing and sending tech packs to them, order relevant trims and fabrics and keeping on top of returning samples from them.
Whilst working at Stiletto I have experienced with whole process from design to supply, which has enabled me to gain a broad overview of fashion production.
