Freddie Hitchcock is a fashion designer and illustrator based in both London and Edinburgh, graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2017 with Ba (Hons) Fashion. Her work focuses on the romantic, soft and awkward elements of her own personality, combined with her obsession for the sickly sweet, the unsettled and the whimsical. I spent hundreds of hours adding couture quality artisinal details to bespoke dresses, through beading, applique and other embellishments. I also helped with embroidery layout, website layout, look books and the development of custom print on Adobe Suite.
A small luxury leather bag company, I was reliable on the development of concepts and sketches into prototypes. I was taught Italian hand finishing techniques. I was also responsible for sourcing fabric from warehouses across London, building connections with suppliers.
I gave style advice, whilst learning about consumer desires, fabric care and developing my rapport with clients.
ECA has taught me much about garment design and creation. Most importantly, I have learnt how to turn a concept into a thoroughly researched project, executed with professional pattern cutting and drafting techniques. I am well versed in most Adobe programmes, especially inDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as confidence on industrial sewing machines and irons.
Oxford Brookes allowed me to break away from the highly structured art students are forced to make at school, letting me see and develop my own creative process organically. More than anything, I learnt how to develop my research further.
