My photography is about connection: our desire for it, our fear of it and our joy when making it. Specialising in portrait and travel photography, I combine making images of people and places with movement, whether from just walking through a locale or by motorcycle travel, another of my passions.
A graduate of the University of Miami and the Spéos Institute in Paris, I began my career interning for Annie Leibovitz and working with Marc Baptiste. This gave me a deep appreciation for working in a team and using one’s talents in the service of others.
Since then I have worked on many long-term projects evolving in immersive journeys around the globe, often travelling solo by motorcycle. I spent a number of years living in Iceland where I developed my signature style of environmental portraiture and honed my ability to interview people. It was there that I completed my first book An Equal Difference.
I have since created a regular street portraiture practice, combining spontaneous encounters with story-telling, weaving together my writing and image creation. I enjoy this easy and open connection with others.
My photography has been published in the Guardian and Observer magazines and exhibited internationally. I have received honours from the Association of Photographers, Olympus, TWPP, and FujiFilm.
I am also regularly commissioned for public speaking, mentoring, workshops, and as a guest lecturer. I sit on the Board of directors for the Association of Photographers.
I’m based in London but I find ways of feeling at home wherever I am.
