About me
My name is Garance Krengel and I am originally from Paris. My education has led me to study various aspects of design, including Textile Design (BA, La Cambre, Brussels, Belgium), Product Design (BA and MA, Haute école des arts du Rhin, Strasbourg, France), and Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship (MAS, Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland). This has permitted me to develop a set of multidisciplinary skills, specifically through the knowledge I have acquired concerning the materials (textile, wood, glass, ceramic, metal...), the software (Rhino, SolidWorks, Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel...) -on PC and Mac- and the techniques involved in production. My approach to design is first to consider the concept, researching what exists already in the given field and how it could be improved. During the research phase, I create moodboards, sketches and drawings, paper mock-ups and photomontages. Once the client and I agree on the direction of the project, I begin working with prototypes, 3D modelling (if needs be) and technical drawings. I have extensive experience of working on highly creative design projects (in Furniture Design, Product Design, Design Accessories and Textile Design) and a real attention to detail, having worked for/with different luxury brands/studio, such as Hermès, Aesop, Marsotto, Tom Dixon, Philippe Malouin, Wommelsdorff and Bless.

COMPOSITION(S) - hammock and rug“How to make waste desirable again?” Collecting sheets, fragmentation, recomposition, creation of a hammock and a rug. Reflections on the bedroom, the bed, the downtime of sleeping, the weaver’s long hours of careful toil. Search for plural senses. A creation for experimentation: slowness, artisanal, linking, intimate space. Diploma project, HEAR, Strasbourg, 2017

book COMPOSITION(S)“How to keep producing?” Research on the theme of re-using (dissertation, Master’s in Design) Sensitive to ecology, to the circular economy and to upcycling, this dissertation is in the form of a story, reassembled out of various texts – sentences, citations, paragraphs – lifted from 33 different works. A creation between: cadavre exquis / cut-up / oulipo / surrealism / poetry / politics / collage / protocol / process
  • Côme - Sling bag in leather
Côme - Sling bag in leatherIn the novel The Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino, Côme, who travels endlessly among the treetops, serves as my inspirtion in his willingness to choose for himself a life that suits him, and through his deftness of movement. I have dreamed up a bag that sits close to the body, is simple to use, and which can be worn either underneath the arm or on the back according to the users needs and desires. The leather strap which wraps around the body is soft, and drapes around the wearer in a nod to
