My name is Gary Russell and I am a 2D artist who works with collage and paint, I am currently retraining to become a digital artist and graphic designer.
Prior to this I spent 9 years involved in the day-to-day organisation of Selfridges concept store (now corner shop), an everchanging showcase of events and partner brands.
I’ve had solo shows at The Hoxton, Dalston Superstore and Deptford Does Art. I’ve also had work shown in New York and the Bulgarian music festival Meadows in The Mountains, along with creating EP art for Raff Vilar and DJ Kariuki.
I spent some time living in New York and whilst there attended a semester of classes at Brooklyn College majoring in Psychology.
Projects
- 'Monster' group showI worked on the initial Kick Starter campaign, which helped raise funds for Art Map London. Me, along with other artists, sold artwork to help raise money to Help Art Map London build a new website. 'Monster' was a group show of these artists which coincided with the launch of the campaign. I curated and hung the work for the show, which took place at Full Stop Bar on Brick Lane.
