During my gap year, I worked full-time at my secondary school as a technician for the film and media department as well as being the student voice coordinator. I had many roles as my technician such as handling and renting out all the departments equipment, setting up lessons and assisting in-lessons, organizing student council events and prefect meetings with the school’s senior team. I created many films for different departments at the school to such as cooking & language films for foreign students; the sixth form production and many other show reels and instructional videos for my department. I also acquired a qualification in supporting in teaching and learning as my time as a technician too. I had a fantastic time being a technician and it’s what spurred me on to do a Media/Film related degree.
During my Media Practice (BA) degree course, I have participated in a wide array of different practices of media, using industry standard equipment and software. I have developed a range of transferable skills in my practical and theoretical modules. I specialised in photography, carrying out my own production for my final year project, which explored the relationship between brutalist/post-modernist architecture in London and UK rap/grime music, through the theme of symmetry. My degree has provided me with the confidence and skills to pursue a professional career in a variety of creative industries, in particular photography and filmmaking. I graduated in summer 2017 with a first-class honours.
