I want to work in an organisation that places a fantastic product at the centre of its ideals. One that embraces creativity and innovation, and hopefully has a social conscience. I believe that the skills I’ve acquired from my education, experience and my love of fashion and design gives me a good understanding of the fashion industry. I believe in my ability to reason and communicate an idea, and take pride in my ability to adapt, innovate and create within a pressured working environment. I am ambitious and driven, and enjoy working in a team that has a strong vision and passion to deliver an outstanding product. I have recently completed a diploma in Professional Photo, Film, TV & Personal Styling after my degree, that I have completed whilst working a full-time job and gaining extra experience. It has taught me so much, and only increased my drive to be further a part of the fashion industry. I am confident in my knowledge of fashion, and know I have skills easily transferable to the industry. Due to the nature of my degree, I feel confident in my written and spoken manner both in a 1:1 and presentation environment, I am keen to find creative and innovative solutions over simply discussing a problem, and have been lucky enough to have had the environment to exercise this in my current role. I know that my participation in extra-curricular activities throughout my studies has improved my time management, leadership and project management skills, and I am confident in my interpersonal and influencing skills. I have invested in my passion for the industry with a diploma to increase my technical knowledge base, completed creative assignments, and voluntary work to improve my experience. There are two main focuses to my current role at the university. The first is engagement - whether that's with students, staff or external companies. I work with students to find out what they want from my department, with staff to find out what our students need to get them into the best job's after university and with local, national and international companies to bring their opportunities to our students. I run the social media accounts for our department, raising awareness of the campaigns we are running and opportunities we are offering. The second part is concerned with social business. Facilitated the first Masters level social innovation programme to work inside an organisation, to help it to scale sustainably, making more social impact. Programme is in process of being commissioned for £5.5 million contract with Police Crime Commissioner’s Office for national implementation. Since taking on the social media for the department I have turned an under utilised engagement tool into our primary form of communication with students, staff and community. I have secured my own budget for promotion and strategy produced in collaboration with the main university marketing team. I believe my background in innovation has taught me a great deal about design, the trade of products and services, and customer experience which are easily transferable. I would like to work for a company that has a social element already, but would also like to help build this into organisations, as I believe social impact in integral to 21st century business. Keen to assess success and failure within my own department in full time role, determining what students are engaging with, or what they aren’t and how we could improve our service. More recently we have targeted a lot more of our events to give our students a more personalised experience with Changemaker Hub which has been reflected in our engagement numbers.
Volunteering - present: no option) Weekly window displays (male, female and child mannequins, homewares and campaign displays) and instore displays. Styled either by myself or in accordance with themes/events set by head office. Identifying items that would be attractive to varied demographics for customer base at charity shop to use for instore displays and floor stock. Due to the store’s premium store status, we receive luxury items from other Cancer Research stores, and also surplus stock from high street chains. Working with unknown and completely random stock at Cancer Research provides more challenge to produce a cohesive and inviting display each time. Becomes more necessary to be creative with what is available. Professional Photo, Film, TV & Personal Styling diploma has trained me to understand trend research, product process and critical path. Also in colour analysis, fit, editorial fashion and accessory styling. These skills have been incredibly useful in this role, and give me a good foundation to build from. I have learned a huge amount from this role including; product placement and stocking, colour and texture combinations, seasonal colours and trends, identifying demographics and using products to attract these, and above all how to create a full and cohesive display out of a completely random collection of homewares, clothing and promotional products!
