In order to benefit the wider business community in Ruislip, as well as to implement the learning I gained in university, I have provided some strategic and financial consultation to various local independent stores, charity shops and small restaurants. For example, I assisted a local restaurant for a period of 3 weeks to improve the awareness of its brand by increasing its online presence. This entailed constructing a website and suggesting it register with Just Eat, the online food delivery service. In addition to gaining experience in a real business environment, I have also improved my skills in terms of communication and presentation by dealing with local business owners.

I participated in the annual CIMA Business Game while at University, a business case-study and simulation requiring me to act in a consultative capacity to a certain company seeking to overcome various difficulties relating to its cash-flow and internationalisation plans. I undertook an internal audit of the firm’s financial statements to identify areas in its balance sheet for restructuring, to reassure current investors and attract new ones, as well as to suggest areas for the strategic divestment of underperforming assets. In addition, I conducted market research for the company’s internationalisation plan, including cultural research to identify markets which were culturally compatible. I discussed my proposals with the visiting CIMA analyst in depth, resulting in an overall result of 75%.
