Digital Communications OfficerWest Berkshire Council
Newbury, United KingdomFull Time
As West Berkshire Council’s first and only Digital Communications Officer, I’m responsible for the planning and creation of all content and campaigns shared on our corporate social media channels- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and most recently TikTok.
I also work with our Council Leader to broadcast live monthly Q&A’s and provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions and receive updates on specific topics. Most recently we have produced a ‘Leaders Update’ video series for the Council Leader to inform residents of the latest news, projects and information from within the council and across the district.
Another key part of my role is planning and filming (on some occasions) videos for projects, campaigns, events and news within the council and across the district. One example of this is an Eco-Schools video I organised with one of our primary schools in the district as part of our Environment Campaign.

My role still involved creating bespoke social media plans and strategies for clients, but I was allocated 15 clients, including the company’s social media channels and was tasked with creating and scheduling their content for their social media channels. This also included running paid Facebook advertisements for clients and providing monthly analytic reports.
I continued to accompany and assist the Head of Social Media Content at Samphire on client shoots to capture content for their social media channels. In general, these shoots would be monthly or fortnightly depending on the client.
I was also tasked with working on the company’s blog and wrote a few pieces which included a series getting to know the ‘chicks’, an intern’s series and round-up of upcoming food events, client spotlights and more.
Furthermore, I continued to work closely with the Senior Account Executives and Account Managers, searching for food content creators they could work with on client events, collaborations and gifting. I was able to attend client events which provided me with an opportunity to network.
Unfortunately, this role was cut short due to the pandemic which meant a lot of our clients were forced to close.
