Interning at the London Head Office Harvey Nichols as an admin buyer for womenswear shoes and accessories.
• As a buying intern at Harvey Nichols I was expected to deal and talk to clients, which included both brand ambassadors and customers. Within the months of interning at Harvey Nichols, I worked closely with all the womenswear accessories departments which involved; scarfs, international and contemporary accessories, shoes and jewellery across all their UK stores.
• Working alongside each department, allowed me to understand the different buying processes and customers. I soon became in full correspondance with brands, talking to them every day arranging orders and daily meetings.
• After experiencing the roles of the intern in each session of accessories, I was fortunate to work in more detail with the shoes and contemporary accessories team as there was a turnaround of staff that left. The team felt that I was responsible enough to take on the role of admin buyer until the position was filled full time. This allowed me to experience more than just a typical intern role, giving me more responsibilities and confidence.
• One of the main areas I enjoyed learning about most, was understanding the customers across all the UK stores, understanding key information like the brands that sell more, the colours that sell more in each store or departments. Understanding fully the customer and the surroundings. This is where I truly fell in love with fashion buying it allowed me understand the industry beyond university.
