Events AssistantLondon, United Kingdom
About me
Organised, proactive and creative, I excel at event and project management thanks to my strong work ethic and time management skills. Having recently graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London with first-class honours in Music with French, I am currently seeking a role in events, with a particular interest in the media and music industries. During my studies at Royal Holloway, I built up a wealth of experience in events, beginning by working as a Student Ambassador. In this role, I used my excellent customer service skills to create an engaging and inspiring experience for visitors. In my second year of study I was promoted to Senior Student Ambassador, where I became responsible for managing specific areas at large-scale events such as Open Days and Applicant Visit Days, leading teams of around 20 Student Ambassadors. This role saw me work both individually and within my team of 10 Senior Student Ambassadors to creatively solve problems under pressure, making the most effective use of the time, personnel and resources available to me. In my third year I was awarded yet more responsibility when I became the Acting Student Recruitment Events Administrator for three months, sharing the role on a part-time basis with three others. Using my strong organisational skills I managed the university's Campus Tours schedule, liaised with other departments to arrange meetings and exchange resources, and maintained Department communications with over 200 Student Ambassadors. My technical background as a Live Sound Engineer (with additional experience in lighting) has given me further insight into the workings of events from an AV perspective. My experience as a freelancer has helped me to develop my organisational and administrative skills, and I am extremely adaptable and quick to learn when working with new teams and equipment as a result of my time as Touring Engineer for Hornman. As Lead Sound Engineer for Buddhafield in the City Festival, I work as part of the Senior Production Team, often solely responsible for sound but occasionally heading a team of engineers, whilst simultaneously being responsible for artist liaison. This has given me excellent skills in communication, problem-solving, and multitasking. Roles on the Technical Crew at Royal Holloway Students Union and the Soundworker Collective at DIY Space for London have also allowed me a more complete training in live sound and lights, and a solid understanding of good practice in health and safety. I have also developed skills in the marketing of events, through my role as Marketing Manager on the committee for the TedxRoyalHolloway 2016 conference and my Student Ambassador work with the Digital Engagement Team at Royal Holloway. These roles allowed me to hone my skills in social media, copywriting, design, and SEO, as well as working on web pages using Contensis CMS, HTML, and CSS. My major in Music, as well as 2 years of previous experience as Conductor of the Townley Grammar School Junior Choir, also gave me the opportunity to organise and deliver concerts and rehearsals. In addition to handling the logistical side of booking rehearsal and performance spaces, handling finances and sourcing accompanists, my responsibilities included marketing to prospective audience members and keeping the ensemble musicians engaged and excited about the projects. Roles at Royal Holloway as a radio presenter for Insanity Radio and music journalist for The Founder newspaper further developed my written and verbal communication skills, as well as my interpersonal skills when liaising with artists, managers and promoters over the telephone and email. In total I contributed over 1000 hours to extra-curricular life during my degree, an effort which was recognised when I received a Passport Gold Award from the university. This demonstrates my committed work ethic and boundless enthusiasm for all aspects of event management. I have a real enthusiasm for working in events, and an attitude and skill-set which allow me to excel. I hope to continue building my skills in a suitable role as soon as possible.
