About me
I am a 19-year-old fashion designer and writer, who just recently launched her clothing brand "CHUKU". Where I currently sell handmade quality tote bags with freehand machine embroidered illustrations @chuku_attire (on IG)! I have expertise in freehand machine embroidery, hand beading, fabric manipulation and sewing. Costume Design is where my passion mainly lies. I want to reach out and connect with costumiers, stylists, and fashion designers to collaborate, assist, and work with/for! Please get in touch if you are interested in what I have to offer or have an opportunity for an internship or assistance on any projects. Even though I'm based in Leicester, I can travel to London and other cities to stay there for a certain amount of time for projects! I'm also a writer and poet and regularly make articles and analysis of musicians, songs and film & TV. I produced my own series titled "Lyric Analysis" where I go through extensive research to aid my analysis of songs. Explaining how the lyrics of discussion are related to current and historic social events. If you have any opportunities such as mentoring or internships at magazines, please let me know!

British Museum - Greengross Summer Creatives Programme (Fashion Strand 2019)For two weeks in the Summer of 2019, I participated in the Greengross Summer Creatives Programme 2019 for the Fashion Strand at the British Museum in London. Below is what me and my partner, Nicole Cheah, designed and handmade using a black blazer, a red dress and one leg off a pair of black trousers. Our garment was inspired by the museum’s collections/exhibitions after our extensive primary research, particularly the Japan, Islamic World and Ancient Egypt exhibitions. At the end of the two
  • Deconstruct & Reconstruct
Deconstruct & ReconstructI deconstructed a denim jacket and a black blazer and reconstructed them together along with PVC, flower embroidered net and black calico. Before starting the making process, I created eleven detailed fashion illustrations showcasing my ‘development of ideas’, along with intricate samples - which were relevant to each fashion illustration. One main feature of the garment was the machine embroidered illustration on the back, this took approximately seven hours to complete. I also contributed emb
  • Embellishment Extravaganza
Embellishment ExtravaganzaFor this project, I created an explosion of hand beaded components, all collated together onto a rectangular panel. Mixtures and combinations of round beads, bugle beads, ringed beads, acrylic beads, sequins and ribbons; all tinged in gold, cream, beige, mahogany, caramel and chestnut. As a base for the beading I used fabric manipulation techniques such as shibori (steamed organza), ruffling and embroidery. Something I commonly did was stack the beads on top of each other, to elevate the surface

I also worked closely with industry professionals from Calvin Klein, Prada and British Vogue, whom were all helpful! Participating in this programme offered me a chance to be in a dynamic environment outside of normal school conditions. The opportunity gave me the privilege to meet a creative array of young people and industry professionals for me to learn from, offering a wide variety of perspectives, ideas and styles. I was also awarded a certificate for my participation.
