English Language and LinguisticsThe University of Sussex
- Falmer, Brighton, United Kingdom
English Language and Linguistics is the study of specific aspects that create the English language, including lexis, phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics and pragmatics. This enabled me to gain excellent written and verbal communication skills and editorial abilities through writing essays and reports. In addition, a variety of modules provided a broad knowledge of different dialects and their history, the history of the English language and the development of language in a wide variety of contexts. These included language in the media, geographically and in children. Taking electives in Psychology, Art History and American Studies also ensured I had a broader cultural knowledge to be able to understand a variety of texts, concepts and theories.
Time management and organisation was imperative to my studies, working to deadlines. Workshops (more focused language study) enabled me to practice teamwork and well as independently. Frequent seminars encouraged me to be able to debate and discuss a variety of topics and provoke new thoughts and ideas.
