About me
Isobel Cross Textiles: innovation and design graduate from Loughborough University. Specialising in multi media textiles has given me a broad range of knowledge of a wide variety of textile and surface techniques. Weave, laser cutting, ceramics, print and dying have been developed to create a varied range of material outcomes, exploring the interactions between material, colour and surface. Within my collections particular attention is taken to fine detailing and texture, where soft qualities are combined with shiny delicate surfaces. The multi media designs are visualised for the bespoke and high-end interior market. Studying for a year at Design School Kolding, Denmark gave me experience of group work, problem solving and sustainability and the opportunity to collaborate with companies Kvadrat and Vero Moda. Photography, styling, visualisation and communication of ideas are key components of my skills alongside my textile ability. All images © Isobel Cross 2017
Projects
  • Serene Surfaces: NYDELIG
Serene Surfaces: NYDELIG This collection combines calm and subtle pinks with rich greens and copper metallics. Within the collection embellished details and delicate copper patterns adorn the woven, glass and ceramic pieces. Inspired by shiny and circular forms, the collection is based on dappled and spotted patterns that create a sense of intricacy and delicacy. Deep greens evoke a sense of the outdoors while the subtle pinks aim to convey what NYDELIG suggests, a sense of precious found in the glass beaded details.
  • Serene Surfaces: ROLIG
Serene Surfaces: ROLIGA collection inspired by the aesthetic of Scandinavian interiors and the concept of ‘Hygge’, discovered whilst studying for a year in Denmark. Hygge has many meanings that revolve around establishing a homely, cosy and comforting atmosphere. Inspired by this the project began by looking at a variety of patterns and textures in various compositions. Glass and shiny surfaces, plants, rocks and foods styled together have been combined to evoke various moods. This has inspired the shapes and colours throughout the collection, where print, weave and ceramic techniques are combined to create a variety of delicate and rustic textural surfaces that create a mood of calm and charm. The deep blues and cool greys within the ROLIG collection, instils what the Danish word suggests, a sense of calm and tranquillity. Within the textured layers, shades of blue are combined on glossy and tactile surfaces. Inspired by crystalline forms and mottled textures, glass and ceramics are softened with sheepskin and leather, and silver highlights are found within clusters of beaded details.
  • Serene Surfaces: JORD
Serene Surfaces: JORD A collection inspired by the aesthetic of Scandinavian interiors and the concept of ‘Hygge’, discovered whilst studying for a year in Denmark. Inspired by the softness and delicacy of reeds and flowing lines of marble and rocks, JORD translating to earth is a collection exploring gentle neutrals and deeper tonal hues. Bold highlights of gold make a statement within the collection through geometric shapes that contrast to soft, layered tassles. Cut dappled pattern is found amongst rustic surfaces, and beaded details add a shine between the subtle layers.
