About me
Alongside completing my degree with a First-Class Honours in BA Design from Goldsmiths University, I have worked as the set designer on an audience interactive theatre show and interned as an assistant content creator at Warner Music. Following these experiences, I have built a passion for working closely with creative directors and aspire to establish my own design agency tailored towards more inclusive and sustainable film and theatre production processes. I am looking to apply these values and my knowledge of set creation and management to a junior production coordinator or art department assistant role within the theatre and film industry and develop my learning further. During my industry placement, I became the set designer for interactive theatre company ‘Say it Again, Sorry?’, who invite audience members to take an active role in their productions. My role included: • Conceptualising and building the set and creating illustrations and models for my fellow company members to give feedback on. The design was crucial for giving the audience a real taste of performing on-stage, and in acknowledgement of my work, I was asked to stay on as the company designer to develop future iterations of the show. • Managing the build schedule and budget to support the creative director. I organised deadlines for production elements and contacted props and material suppliers to source high-quality, low-cost materials. Though I had never managed a budget before, I was able to conserve the company’s spending. This experience gave me a working knowledge of the production stages involved in developing a show and helped to establish my resourceful and collaborative work ethic that will be valuable for working in a set production or coordination role. Whilst working at Warner Records UK, I supported the creative directors by creating audio-visual content and compiling research into set styling, colour schemes and costumes. This would be used to develop new visual identities for musicians in music videos and album covers, and my designs were approved by higher management and utilised as part of Warner’s canon of style guides. The practical skills I have acquired through these projects, from presenting proposals to constructing final outcomes, as well as my ability to budget and communicate with people from a variety of professions, make me an ideal candidate for a graduate set coordinator or art department position in a production company. If you work in the theatre or film industry and are looking to hire, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
