About me
I’m a cultural producer with specialist knowledge in creative enterprises. Over the last 10 years I have worked in the fields of journalism, publishing and branding in the Middle East (Bahrain, Dubai, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi) and most recently in London too. I have experience working with leading organisations, international companies and small start-ups, using strategy, innovation and marketing to create opportunities to solve problems. Over the last 12 months I have consulted on behalf of The Future Laboratory, London for clients such as fashion brand H&M; property developer Emaar and UBS financial services. I have also travelled and covered art exhibitions on behalf of Sotheby’s, in addition to providing brand strategy for various start-ups. This has been alongside my reading of MA Culture, Criticism and Curation at Central Saint Martins, whereby I have been able to apply my work experience to produce frameworks for critically engaging with history and present scenarios of culture. This has enabled my practical hands-on experience and academic knowledge to combine and create outcomes of new understandings through expanded forms of curation. In by doing so, I am able to approach every project with a three-pronged approach of intuition, observation and integration, reflective of my work and academic experience.

  • Heritage: A User's Manual
    Heritage: A User's ManualThis Southbank Centre Archive Studio exhibition interweaves archival material and contemporary responses to reveal the connections between the construction of Hayward Gallery in the 1960s, and the life of Southbank Centre today. The exhibition features video and sound recordings produced with local community groups and dancers who use Royal Festival Hall. The project, curated by MA Culture, Criticism and Curation students from Central Saint Martins, is founded on the belief that the heritage of a building is characterised by the ever-changing contributions of its community.

    Brownbook 41-45An overview of work created at Brownbook Magazine issues 41 through to 45. As well as the magazine itself, special project supplements included: a guide to Terangeles (the Iranian district of LA), a newspaper all about Middle Eastern coffee - featuring step-by-step illustrations on how to make the perfect Turkish Coffee, a pull-out map of some of the best outdoor locations within the region and a pull our booklet all about Middle Eastern weddings.

    I established Alef in July 2013 with a launch the Serpentine Gallery in London, as part of the Qatar-UK 2013 Year of Culture partnership with Qatar Museums. The concept of the magazine was to concentrate on art and cultural topics from the Gulf region. The content was generally divided into country-specific and editorial sections: Touch, Speak, Taste, Listen, and See. The magazine was available on the global newsstand and in independent newsagents around the world; reaching its target audience through retail, subscription, and strategic partnerships. The main aim to inform residents and visitors from all walks of life through positive and non-political stories of lasting educational value about aspects of the Arab and Muslim worlds, their arts, history, geography, biography, cross-cultural connections and trends.

    Modules integrated theoretical issues and practical skills, working with concepts and historical objects to consider how potential new knowledge can be presented in the public realm; rigorous scholarship as well as encouragement of creative and practical skills. The course aimed to emerge critical thinkers equipped with the ability to express clearly and innovatively, ready for life in a fast-changing arts environment. Two exhibitions that I was part of curating were: Inert Matter, an archival exhibition held at Central Saint Martins Window Gallery, and another archival exhibition titled Heritage: A User’s Manual held at London’s Southbank Centre.
