Jake is a filmmaker with experience crafting narrative cinema and commercial videography in equal measure.
Since graduating from Plymouth College of Art with a BA in Film in 2015, Jake has gone on to work on freelance projects including: directing a series of videos for the Institute of Fundraising on ethical door to door charity work, shooting a documentary for six months chronicling a street dance based rehabilitation program on behalf of One Dance UK, traveling France in a double decker bus collecting the worlds first video dictionary for the Memrise language learning app, and even coordinating film workshops for organisations such as Barnardo's Children's Charity.
He then worked full time as a videographer for Plymouth University, organising, shooting and editing a range of corporate and commercial projects, from marketing material to events coverage.
Jake's true love is for narrative film, and he is constantly developing personal narrative projects. He is interested in creating work that provokes and questions the audience, as he believes this is the most engaging form of cinema. His latest short film, Doorkeep, was written, produced and directed by Jake and premiered at Plymouth Film Festival in May, and is due to play at festivals internationally throughout 2017.
Jake has taught on and coordinated workshops in filmmaking, and also has experience in providing media training for those hoping to work in front of a camera.
In his free time Jake is a keen street photographer. Jake uses street photography as a way of maintaining a sense of connection with society, something he feels is at danger of being lost as our world view is increasingly influenced by online media. He finds shooting streets to be both an exhilarating and terrifying form of photography, and he savours the challenge of it.
Jake's other interests include science, philosophy and developing his knowledge and skills of literature. His favourite filmmakers are Terrance Malick and Andrei Tarkovksy.
