About me
Hi I'm James a non-binary visual artist who works with the themes of identity, gender, sexuality, and form (natural and man-made). I have a multi-disciplinary approach to creating my artwork with constantly changing topics of interest. I typically work with digital medias, expressive painting, photography, and printmaking. As a result of my research into form and colour, I combine these skills in order to create unique artworks that are honest and expressive. Featuring complementary hues and bold use of texture, their pieces embody the human experience through abstract expressionism.
I choose to use symbolism in their works to encourage deeper thinking and actively engage the viewers. I also feel that gender, identity and sexuality are key elements to the human experience, hence this is one of my biggest inspirations for creating their works. I am also inspired by the works of Guy Catling, Aki Sasamoto, Micheal Reeder, Nan Golding, Oscar Murillo, Bert Irving and many others.
Projects
- Queering HistoryThis project is an exploration into using found images either digitally or using traditional printing methods to revive the found images. I then find or create my own patterns to mix with the images to create flamboyant "outfits" which would typically go against societal gender expectations for the time period.
