Education
Master of Arts - MA, Contemporary CuratingManchester School of Art
- Manchester, United Kingdom
Engaged in multiple self-lead projects in order to develop the practical and critical skills necessary to contribute to the discourse of contemporary curating.
Developed the necessary logistical and organisational skills to prepare, visualise, and direct shows within context-specific spaces.
Contextualised my work within the field of contemporary art through the exploration of new media, installation, digital art, and the potentiality of emerging practices such as blockchain/NFT art as well as augmented and virtual reality.
Additionally, through my final project I opted to undertake an exhibition proposal entitled ‘Data as Pigment’. Inspired by Refik Anadol’s experimentation with artificial intelligence, I saw this project as an opportunity to expand my understanding of the possibilities of ‘generative art’ and the complex issues it presents to both art enthusiasts and collectors.
Bachelor of Arts - BA, History of Art with Cultural StudiesUniversity of Leeds
- Leeds, United Kingdom
Grade: Honours Class I
Throughout my degree I have been able to develop a comprehensive understanding of Art History, primarily through the lens of social, political and cultural phenomenon.
Additionally, undertaking a joint honours in Cultural Studies, I have been able to further expand my critical awareness through modules focused on prominent cultural theorists such as Roland Barthes, Jacques Derrida, and Laura Mulvey.
During my final years I have been fortunate enough to be able to direct my studies towards modern art, the avant-garde, and painterly abstraction. Resultantly I was able to complete an extended dissertation on Barnett Newman's seminal 'stripe paintings' in relation to eighteenth-century aesthetic theory of 'the Sublime.'
