About me
I am a Junior Software Developer with previous experience in the music and audio industries. My interest in coding began after self-teaching in Processing, a creative JavaScript port. I grew inspired by the ability to be innovative and fun with programming and I have since been on a journey to create new and exciting things with the skills I have learnt. Whilst concatenating my expertise in previous roles, I am looking to work as a software developer in a fast paced, creative environment, where people share ideas and I can learn from others.
Projects
  • Park Pong
Park PongThis was a collaborative project, completed in a group of four. We applied our knowledge of MongoDB & Express to create a full stack website. It was also the first opportunity to work in a large group, utilising the benefits of Git-Hub and version control. We worked well as a team, dividing the workload between us in a way that would be efficient for our time and allow us to gain the most experience. I focused on the user elements of the site, creating the user model and controllers, whilst util
  • F1 Circuit Mapper
F1 Circuit MapperThis was a two day pair project, where we were tasked with picking an existing API and implementing it into our own website. My partner and I decided to go with an F1 motorsports API, as we felt the data provided had lots of potential for great visuals. We utilised the capabilities of a REST API (GET, PUT, POST, DELETE) to create a fully functioning website that visually displayed all historical F1 Grand Prix and their circuits. The most challenging part of the project was implementing the MapGL
  • Baggle
BaggleCashless, e-commerce, Full stack, web app. This was my last project during the boot camp course. It was an opportunity to apply my new skills in SQL databases and a Python/Flask back-end. My team and I decided to create a cashless, bartering e-commerce website. We felt that the system of swapping items was an interesting concept to tackle in an SQL architecture. I focused my time on creating the relationships between the different backend models. I utilised the self referential capabilities of a

The course focused on the fundamentals of web based software development, with the goal of creating a personalised portfolio of work. I started by learning the rudiments of JavaScript, HTML and CSS, eventually moving on to learn about the backend. By the end of the course, I was able to create full-stack web applications using both MERN and Python/SQL stacks. During the course, I utilised both collaborative and solo work environments, with daily lectures, tasks and workshops. I completed four projects whilst studying at GA: • Baggle: https://baggles.herokuapp.com/ • F1 Circuit Mapper: https://bit.ly/jnryanf1 • Park Pong: https://park-table-tennis.herokuapp.com/ • Battleships: https://bit.ly/jamesBattleships
