Janaina Baxevani is a multidisciplinary communication designer. She holds an FdA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, a BA(Hons) in Fashion Promotion: Public Relations from London College of Fashion, an MA in Graphic Branding from the University of the Arts London, and an MPhil in Communication Design from the University of Westminster. She has worked for clients including Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar, and her greatest expertise revolves around the worlds of art and exhibition design. Janaina designs for purpose and her design work attempts to tell stories and create meaningful experiences. She has worked for Halcyon Gallery, producing identities for exhibitions, client fine art volumes and promoting contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Dale Chihuly, Lorenzo Quinn and Bob Dylan. Her works are research driven, through intelligent enquiry and evaluation, they create a framework for a deeper insight into graphic design and its future development. Alongside her professional work, she is currently conducting research at the Royal College of Art. This project, entitled ‘The Storytelling of The Old Master Paintings in the 21st Century’, explores means of communicating historical significance through smells. As a Multi-disciplinary Designer, I have been given the opportunity to re-develop the visual communication for the gallery, push boundaries in design, design brand identities, marketing material, spaces and bespoke prestigious books (catalogues) for upcoming exhibitions. Recent projects include: Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, Lorenzo Quinn, Dale Chihuly, Santiago Montoya, Old Masters acquisitions.
I have been commissioned by the Old Masters & Pictures department, to develop a bespoke prestigious book design for ‘The Armada Portrait’ Masterpiece. The execution of the print design, led towards a further production of a limited edition, 2nd volume book - The Appendices.
Working with the Proposal Team as the designated designer on projects, producing bespoke, fast turnaround, high-end pitch documents including bound books, brochures, packaging, email, tablet and on-screen presentations for major clients.
As a talented print and packaging designer, working for Christie’s marketing department, I developed and executed high-class projects for upcoming auctions, private sales and exhibitions. Projects comprised of bespoke book and packaging design for private sales, identity design for exhibitions, print & digital ads for the media, and ad hoc invitations.
As a Marketing Assistant with design skills, working for a luxury contract catering firm, I was given the opportunity to develop the marketing calendar/programme for 2015, the QR code technology for food packaging and the brand identities for the cafés of a number of high-end brands: Battersea Power Station, Arcadia, Blind Veterans, SEB, Abbey Rd Studios & Disney.
A three-month contract as a Part Time Visiting Lecturer, delivering lectures in design research methods and preparing students for the RSA Design Awards submissions.
A six-month contract as a Graphic Designer, mastering knowledge in brand positioning, product development, creative strategy, development of marketing collateral materials, packaging and ad campaigns. Made a significant contribution towards the evolution of Guerlain’s visual story.
