About me
I scaled a community of third culture kids from 0 to 2000+ of highly active followers on Instagram, and 1000+ members in the dedicated FB group & a highly active slack community of 200+ cross-cultural adults/kids 6 months with no budget. I host regular global remote calls for the members of the community to meet each other remotely and build trust. Via my slack channel, third culture kids are able to meet up in real life. So far meetups have been conducted in Canada, Spain, Singapore, USA, London. I currently make a profit from my slack channel. I have a youtube channel which focuses on third culture kids & are in the first recommendations when searching for "third culture kid" on youtube. You can learn more about it on my TEDx talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbhYuz7uh9c I am a third culture kid. I have lived in 5 cities, attended 5 international schools, speak 3 languages and have travelled to more places than I can count. I love meeting new people and networking. At Hack Partners I single-handedly increased community engagement by 50% by writing, designing and delivering creative GIF-focused newsletters and blogs, and doubled the number of signups in half the time previously invested in the process. Conversion occurred through various routes including mass email marketing. I generated leads and increased the hacker community’s retention by 90% via platforms such as Linkedin, Facebook, Meetup, Reddit and hackathon websites. I managed 70 hackers online prior to InfraHack’s hackathon. I communicated in person, through email and Slack. I answered queries and was the go-to person before, during and after events. I managed ticketing processes on Eventbrite including coupon codes, payments and refunds. To increase retention, I set up and managed an alumni hacker community on Slack and Facebook, which allowed members to keep in touch after hackathons. I also implemented a mascot system for hackathons which led to higher team morale and a ranking system to incentivise brand loyalty and increase retention through competition. InfraHack was a nomadic hackathon we hosted from the 16th to the 19th of May in 2019. We started in London and travelled to Manchester, Bletchley Park and Portsmouth. Prior to the event I interviewed and screened 100+ applicants to attend. At the event, I was the community leader and was in charge of communicating, both in person and through Slack, with a community of 70 hackers and 30 mentors who came from companies such as BEIS, Bentley Systems, Mott Macdonald and Network Rail. I managed the social media accounts to keep our community updated hackathon-related events, and managed the videographer throughout the hackathon. I also crafted professional newsletters with no budget using a mix of canvas.com, chrome newsletter plugin, HTML, Gmail. Incredibly positive feedback on my emails and newsletters can be found in my Linkedin recommendations written by the hackers. During my time at EF in cohort 10 as an external founder, I made connections and have kept in close contact with high-level individuals at large corporate companies including the MD of Accenture, the VP of HR at P&G and more. I took Enki.com's customer support from 0%-100% without any experience in customer support prior to the role. In less than a year we hired new employees and I became head of support at Enki.com. I also handled Enki.com's social media channels (facebook, twitter, Linkedin) and lead a recruitment modal to test and see if the company could turn it into a revenue stream. I also wrote an article for their blog which you can read here: https://blog.enki.com/forever-a-student-2b590531b967 At Mendeley Data I proposed a project to integrate Mendeley Data with slack. This proposal was approved and I have worked on research, story creation, lean canvas, and sketch mockups of the slack integration, allowing the development team to build the integration. I have been working in startups since the age of 20. Read more in my CV. Fun Facts: AGE 12 I wanted a phone so I could beat my uncle at the game 'snake'. My parents told I had to buy it myself. So, I got Chinese parents to pay me £30 per hour to teach 3 Chinese children English simultaneously. After a few weeks, I bought my first Nokia and beat the game. AGE 16 I started retailing second-hand clothes on facebook to my high school friends before 'facebook closet sales' existed. My consumers were my high school peers and my students of my high school rivals. I made £200 a month for several years.
Projects
  • Project BRB
Project BRBTo increase brand trust, loyalty and engagement I initiated 'Project BRB' to send employees off to travel to BRB’s European destinations to try our own recommendations for customers. This initiative resulted in customers engaging with the brand in a more personal manner, reduced negative comments on ads, and increased customer trust in brand.

Community, Growth, Management, Retention, Optimisation Increased community growth by 20%, engagement by 50%, retention by 90%, and doubled # of signups in 1/2 the time previously invested in the hacker recruitment process through email marketing, blogs, and growth hacking. To increase hacker retention I kick-started and managed alumni hacker communities on Slack and Facebook, and implemented a mascot ranking system to incentivise brand loyalty. To reach a wider audience organically I built and nurtured relationships with King's College, LBS, Hult, recruitment companies, the Data Science festival and hackers to promote our hackathon via WOM and cross-promotion. Worked closely with the head of operations to prepare, host, and follow up on InfraHack; a nomadic hackathon hosted in London, Manchester, Bletchley Park, Portsmouth. To kickstart the event I interviewed and screened 100+ applicants, managed ticketing processes on Eventbrite and was the community leader in charge of communicating in person, on slack and email with hackers and mentors from BEIS, Bentley Systems, Mott Macdonald, Network Rail. Throughout the hackathon, I managed social media accounts to produce live B2B updates and managed the videographer’s content direction for post-event marketing material. Kickstarted and grew Hack Partner’s Instagram account from 4 to 130+ followers in <1 month organically via email marketing and Instagram content creation. I was the liaison between sponsor companies including Sketch, CloudSploit and Nomad. Optimised B2B hackathon preparation processes of receiving challenges, datasets, mentors, speakers, judges by creating flow charts, prewritten email content, application automation processes, and instruction guides using Typeform, Zapier, Google sheets, Eventbrite. Content Creation for InfraHack To increase community engagement I crafted professional and creative newsletters with no budget using canva.com, chrome newsletter plugin, HTML, Gmail. Incredibly positive feedback can be found in my Linkedin recommendations written by hackers. I rebranded company 2019 brand guidelines and designed merchandise (t-shirts, notebooks, flasks stickers) for hackers, mentors, team. I created and managed InfraHack’s videographer’s and photographer’s briefs; themes, storylines, capture requirements and deadlines, directed the InfraHack marketing video and wrote the official press release for InfraHack.

    FounderThird Culture Kid Global
    London, United KingdomFull Time
I built a highly active community of third culture kids on Instagram, Facebook, Slack, Website, and Whatsapp with no budget. I started this community to create awareness for third culture kids and to provide them with a global community as it did not exist. Our most active channels are individual TCK global Whatsapp groups: Singapore, London, Canada, 'World', with the ‘World’ Whatsapp group containing 100’s of messages per day. To maintain and increase community engagement I host weekly TCK global zoom calls that cater across the following time zones: Asia, USA, UK. This has resulted in closer relationships being built between members of the community and a higher engagement rate from new members when coming in. Over the last two years, I have successfully moved the members of the community through the relationship model from acquaintance to continuation. Today the group grows organically through community WOM referrals and promotion. To increase brand awareness and organic growth I have created a gasified membership scheme which allows members to move up in ranks depending on their level of engagement. This resulted in internal community engagement initiatives including the creation of an open global TCK Spotify playlist to share between members, created by members. Created an educational YouTube channel which focuses on third culture kid topics. My third culture kid YouTube videos are in the first recommendations when searching for “TCK” on YouTube.
