While my degree focused on the study of English Literature, I developed a keen interest in theatre and performance studies. In my dissertation project, for instance, I examined the politics of space and time in Ivo van Hove’s highly condensed and modern adaptation of three of Shakespeare’s Roman plays (Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, and Antony and Cleopatra): Roman Tragedies. Modules with a similar focus included: ‘Theatre Capital’, ‘Science, Nature and Performance’ and ‘Performance Philosophy’. Overall, my degree entailed rigorous independent research and study, group work and presentations, enabling me to hone skills including critical thinking, problem solving, writing and editing as well as my ability to adapt my style to a particular target audience and manage projects.
