Senior Content Designer - ContractorNHS England
London, United KingdomFull Time
Delivering new features and improvements for the NHS website, I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide clinically validated content to improve people's experience of the NHS and reduce pressure on front-line services. Working to GDS best practice, the role involves identifying user needs to create content that meets these needs and is easy to understand and navigate. The NHS website is the UK's biggest health website with more than 50 million visits a month, so a key part of the role is to use analytics, along with user research and user feedback, to evaluate and improve content. Key projects include maintaining and reducing the COVID-19 hub content on the NHS website.

Part of the NHS COVID-19 app team, I created user-centred content that was easy to navigate, clear to understand, accessible and aligned to GDS principles. I participated in regular user research sessions to ensure content meets user needs and to evaluate and improve content, highlight risks and drive content strategy. Due to frequent policy changes, the role was extremely fast paced, so the ability to get to the heart of an issue quickly and embed into an agile workflow to deliver a timely output was crucial. I successfully built strong relationships with stakeholders to understand their goals and work with them to improve user journey and content quality, using evidence to explain decisions made. Keeping abreast of new approaches to content design, particularly within government, health and social care was also a key part of the role.
