Community Manager

Digital start-up Ongosa, in it's first year of business, is a marketplace for independent adventure sports guides and instructors.
I work in a very small team (two full-time, two interns and a collection of occasional freelancers!) which means I have real influence and thus responsibility over how Ongosa develops, and building a brand from scratch.
My roles here include communicating with the professionals we list on the site, from all over Europe. I help them to create and promote their profiles, whilst managing and marketing the services they advertise.
I am responsible for Ongosa’s supporting publishing site: ongosa.com/explore (our primary source of inbound marketing), where I contribute articles and make decisions on strategy, design, content and SEO.
I utilise my copywriting for other collateral such as newsletters, online and print ads, social media feeds (which I run), website copy, press releases etc.
I create reports, analysis and targets for the site’s traffic and social media performance. I also manage our two interns, who are on University placement, which has taught me a lot about delegation and motivation!

Through my degree, I studied modules such as Creative Writing which developed my fiction and non-fiction writing hugely. In Contemporary Documentary I produced a short film and learnt how to use Final Cut Pro. A module called Writing for the media provided valuable, first-hand industry experiences. We were commissioned by local companies to write advertorials, blog posts, radio/television broadcasts and news and print/online feature articles. I also learnt about ethics, legalities and processes within the media world. I adored my degree, especially writing: in both creative and informative instances, which instilled my interest in creative communication.
