I am an experimental surface pattern designer who is constantly thinking of new ways to express my ideas, drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources. My main passion is for hand-crafted methodologies, where the cyanotype process is a particular current interest.
I have also recently pushed my practise to combine textiles and technology, specifically Augumented Reality, responding to the future-thinking design industry.
I love working on live briefs for a range of markets, and collaborating with other artists/designers! I’m looking to learn and gain experience from the industry having just finished my three year degree at Leeds Arts University.
Projects
- Augmented Reality DesignCollaboration with animation graduate Sarah Huff, creating an animated design that subtly communicates the pest and threat problem in New Zealand. Using AR (Augmented Reality), the design comes to life using your smartphone. This can be activated when the design is on any surface - a really exciting project that combines textiles and technology!
- Wanderlust CollectionMy final collection - 'Wanderlust' - combines design and technology, expanding the possibilities of experience. For either the wanderlust explorer or the vicarious adventurer, this collection of designs appreciates New Zealand's wildlife, where some designs come to life through your smartphone - using Augmented Reality and animation (collaboration with Sarah Huff, animation graduate from Leeds Arts University). - 'Connection with Nature' ZineSnippets from my Zine created to showcase my fabric designs for my dissertation project. This collection was a process-led investigation, exploring the northern landscape through drawing, screen printing, photography and the cyanotype process. I created samples that were made in and with nature, emphasising that design can be in the making rather than the outcome and I always love to embrace the value of accidental results in design.
