Originally from Lancashire Jo moved to London to study Graphic and Media design with experimental typography at The London College of Printing, now University of the arts: London College of Communication. She enjoyed the industrial diploma year working at placements including Elle Magazine, Why Not Associates, Principal Branding and 2 Birds in Sydney, Storm Design in Melbourne, Block Branding in Perth, Australia and The Chase, Manchester. Her love of the arts and cultural sector led her to her first job at O-SB, a small design studio with a strong emphasis on typography working for the likes of South London Gallery, Compton Verney and the Southbank Centre. Jo then went on to discover branding, working full time at venturethree on clients including The Times, Waterstones, Sky, HMV, UPC, Discovery Channel, and continuing to work there freelance whilst studying her MA in Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Art. Following the RCA she worked at Wieden + Kennedy on accounts such as The Guardian, Lurpak, Nestea, Fairtrade and many other challenging projects including an interactive digital window display for the Royal Wedding. She currently works as a senior graphic designer at the V&A on advertising and exhibitions.She loves a challenge so takes on exciting private commissions.
Head of Tate Design Studio, creative directing a team of 9 including: Senior Designer, Middleweight designer, Junior designer 2 x creative artworker / designers, digital designer, studio manager, studio manager assistant and regular freelancers. Managing the marketing campaigns for all four sites including Tate Modern, Tate Modern Switch House, Tate Liverpool and Tate St.Ives. Based at Tate Britain. Managing all the design and exhibition graphics across Tate and rolling out the internal rebrand collaborating with North, our external agency.
