I worked at The Set restaurant in Brighton which was located within the Artist Residence hotel. Here I worked front of house dealing with both restaurant and hotel guests. The job was very service driven. The Artist Residence has a very good reputation and I was required to make sure that a certain standard was met. Within the first year I was made manager. It was my job to look after all guests and customers, hire new staff, deal with stock ordering, banking, and ultimately making sure the place was running smoothly. Although I was working mainly within the restaurant side of the building I still had the opportunity to work in areas such as social media and interiors - the Artist Residence is well known for its style.

My degree in Visual Culture explored the relationship between the visual arts and societies from the 19th century through to the 21st. Specific areas that I covered over the three years are ‘Fashion and Art in 19th and 20th Century Paris’, ‘Public Art’ and ‘Photo Identities’. I was particularly interested in fine art and performance, which led me to my dissertation topic ‘The Female Nude in Contemporary Feminist Art’. This involved an examination in to how the contemporary woman artist has used the body as a platform to express the impact and pressures that society has on them. Our degree show at the end of our final year involved creating visual pieces of work to partner our dissertations which involved learning skills on Photoshop and InDesign as well as strengthening skills in organisation, time management and attention to detail.
