BSc (hons) Multimedia and Web computingManchester Metropolitan Universirty

This course had a very broad range of subjects to study which made it a real challenge to do well in, Modules that I studied were: Dissertation: This was focused on usability, the title of it was “Effectiveness of content targeted advertising compared non-targeted advertising”. In my experiment I got to use the usability lab to test my experiment so that was a really good learning experience! 3D Web Applications: This was this first time I had delved into the 3D programming. In the module I learned the basic principles of 3D web programming, X3D, X3DOM and Three JS. I would like to extend my knowledge of three.js as it seemed the easiest to integrate into websites. E-Learning Multimedia: In this module we examined E-learning methods and compared it to traditional education (schools/lectures). It was pretty interesting learning about how the brain works when you study. Advanced Web Techniques: I found this the most interesting, we had to create a rota using PHP and MYSQL. One assignment was a group project where we had to create a site between a 4 of us, a good way to learn about real life situations. Multimedia Development: Here we learned to utilize HTML5 and create web videos. We learned what the best compression's and codec's are for streaming video. Database Development: I learned to create oracle databases which wasn't too hard because it’s fairly similar to MYSQL which I had done before in my foundation degree. Web and Mobile Development: I made a website made from java servlets and a simple android app. I had never done mobile development before this so it was a good introduction to it.

It was here that I learned web design basics and standards. Although web languages have come a long way since then, it gave me a good foundation and understanding of how to design for the web. I learned how to code in HTML, CSS and PHP confidently. I also started to learn Adobe Fireworks, Photoshop and Premiere so i could create videos and graphics.
