About me
Copywriting and research portfolios, along with all relevant information, can be found on my website johnmorrison.co.uk. My portfolios showcase both published and speculative pieces of work on a range of different projects including law, finance, current affairs, technology, healthcare and retail. This includes web copy, articles, blog posts, email newsletters, case studies, product descriptions, press releases, location listings and event descriptions. I write copy for the Spectator, and between April 2020 and October 2020, I wrote the magazine’s new daily Covid-19 update. By June the update had over 110,000 subscribers with an open rate of 45%, making it the most widely-read Covid-19 newsletter in the world. The email also succeeded in attracting many new subscribers for the Spectator. I have written and researched articles and blog posts for the Spectator, including a post which became one of the magazine’s most popular articles of 2020. I curate events for the Spectator such as live interviews, podcasts and conferences. I’ve sourced guests, written event descriptions and drafted questions and briefings for the journalists hosting these events. I write web copy and research briefings for the Swiss financial services firm Finopia. I also write web and leaflet copy for The Mini Golfers, a golf company in London. I previously worked full-time as a copywriter for the travel app LuckyTrip where I wrote location descriptions, email newsletters and app-store release notes. For the last two and a half years, I’ve worked as a freelance researcher and written dozens of briefings for nationally-published journalists such as Fraser Nelson, Andrew Neil, Kate Andrews, Katy Balls, James Forsyth, Alastair Stewart and Douglas Murray. These briefings cover countless topics from healthcare and finance, to the environment and current affairs. My work has been used for news articles, media interviews, podcasts, panel discussions and live events. I previously worked as a parliamentary researcher for the current Business Secretary Alok Sharma. I’ve also researched and written a consumer strategy for the Spectator. I was tasked with finding ways for the magazine to attract and keep new subscribers.
