About me
Throughout my career I have developed all the skills necessary to ensure that projects I undertake are successful. I combine experience of Media, Promotions, Conference Management, Festival Organisation, Event Management and I have worked in the entertainments industry, with a focus on magic and illusions, for the past 20 years. In my current role with David Berglas, I am responsible for the entire media/marketing process, and enjoy the constant challenges I meet. I enjoy the varied workload, and am able to prioritise and adjust to exceed expectations of my role. A major facet of this is arranging his public appearances and lectures. From pre-event venue checks, to writing presentations and providing AV materials, I am involved in the full production flow. Previously I completed a contract as Census Area Manager for the Office for National Statistics where I was instrumental in managing all Census operations in an area with over 500k people. A fundamental aspect of this role was to promote the Census through managing media and community relationships in order to maximise the number of people returning their Census. I also had full accountability for the management of 240 field staff, with responsibility for HR including disciplinary matters and all aspects of the weekly payroll, and effectively motivating teams to ensure that they achieved objectives. I managed all budgets and stock-holding to ensure the smooth running of all areas of operation. I also organised a year-long series of events and 'Roadshows' for the Office for National Statistics and the Census2011 teams. In this role I held end-to-end responsibility for both front and back of house operations, and staff/volunteer management. Prior to this, I was the Editor and Business Manager of Pentacle Magazine where I had full accountability for the professional journalistic integrity of the magazine, as well as proactively marketing the publication through participating in, and organising networking events, managing social media activities and developing the website (CMS based, CSS, HTML). In addition to my CV experience, I have been actively involved in the coordination of the International Magic Festival (a week-long industry leading event for professional entertainers) in London each year. I hold the position of Host with The Magic Circle, meaning I am the 'Face' of the Circle to many of our members and guests at our prestigious Headquarters building. By ensuring I am there to answer their questions, and resolve any problems they may encounter I am able to promote The Magic Circle in the best way possible, and guarantee their experience is an enjoyable one. For the past three years have been the Summer School Coordinator and a member of the Events Committee. This involves organizing events, lectures and presentations to our 1500 members worldwide, plus a series of themed instruction evenings to ensure that their skills are kept current.     Census Area Manager

    • Playing a pivotal role in the management of 240 field staff to ensure the overall efficiency of the Census operation in an area averaging 500k people achieving a 96.5% final return • Planning and establishing procedure for all public facing staff within the Borough Council • Deploying the team to areas of low returns in order to maximise the number of people returning their Census questionnaires and ensure consistency across the Borough • Establishing links with community groups whilst proactively engaging with specific target populations • Responsible for the performance management of the team including dealing with all aspects of HR and investigating any disciplinary matters that may arise • Managing authorisation of weekly and monthly timesheets, investigating discrepancies, allocating overtime, and payroll approval within budgetary constraints • Managing the £1.2M budget with responsibility for controlling cost and resource allocation • Coordinating the controlled provision of sensitive information to media and council staff, heading the Census/Council interface group and conducting media interviews to effectively promote the Census • Developing an extensive network of contacts with local, regional and national media outlets, including radio, television and newspapers • Collaborating with Community Advisors to develop strategies for engaging with communities • Ensuring the security and confidentiality of all Census information and adhering to all instructions and procedures • Successfully resolving any complex or escalated issues that may arise, including dealing with difficult members of the public
