About me
My name is Jonathan Owens; I am a photographer and serving soldier in the British Army currently living in Edinburgh but soon relocating to London.
Having conducted many solo travel projects, most recently in Istanbul, I consider myself a photojournalist, documentary, and portrait photographer.
I aim to capture the essence of a person or place in my images whether it be the character of one of my subjects or the air of an environment. I strive to make people feel as if they are in the photo with storytelling being at the heart of my images.
I have also been employed as my company’s photographer whilst serving in the British Army often documenting our exercises and activities from range packages to a general’s international ball at Edinburgh Castle.
I offer a variety of services in portraiture, editorial, documentary, lifestyle, and commercial photography.

Reconnaissance OperatorBritish Army
- Edinburgh, United KingdomFull Time
A reconnaissance operator gathers intelligence on the enemy in front of the main operating force. This often means working in extremely close proximity to the enemy and having to sustain yourself in rough conditions for as long as a week.
I have acted as the patrol camera operator many times accurately photographing the enemy whilst being silent and not seen.
