Versus Magazine

Jan 2013
  • Versus is an online blog and quarterly magazine that curates and creates music content, chiefly in the genres of hip-hop and alternative electronica. Responsibilities - Managing a team, providing motivation and incentives in order to maintain them as volunteers to the magazine. - Daily writing of new music posts and weekly reviews/opinion editorial pieces for the blog. - Discussing and providing opportunities for the Versus brand through correspondence with PR Companies, labels and artists. - Reviewing and critiquing pitches from both internal and external writers looking to contribute to either our website or magazine. - Managing content, ensuring that our articles are spread out regularly and optimally marketed. - Editing the copy of the entirety of the magazine as well as any longer-form online pieces of content. Experience - This year I have interviewed Vic Mensa, Asher Roth, Bishop Nehru and BADBADNOTGOOD for Versus, artists looking to break into the UK market - Received positive feedback for the aforementioned interviews, Vic Mensa described the interview as “phenomenal” and “honestly one of the most in-depth pieces I’ve done” on Twitter. Also, my Bishop Nehru interview reached the front page of Reddit’s “Hiphopheads”, one of the biggest online hip-hop communities in the world. - Attending live events in order to produce content for the magazine, including Primavera Sound (Barcelona), Beacons (Skipton) and countless live shows in London and Leeds.
