A former theatre actor, visual artist, fabricator, and corporate manager, I was born and live in Canada's "Forest City" of London, Ontario with my wonderful film editor wife Kai and our two French Bulldogs, Archie and Mirabelle. Life is good. :)
I have been fortunate enough to have written, produced, and co-directed several award-winning documentaries and docu-series including "Missing Mom" and "Nintendo Quest", and worked as a development executive creating and producing several reality TV series - two of which remain in production today. Most recently, I am a busy story consultant and screenwriting instructor, often mentoring new and emerging screenwriters from all over the world. I operate primarily under the banner of The Screenplay Factory, which I founded, and I absolutely love to meet and help new creative voices from all walks of life.
After years in live theatre, my reputation as a capable stage actor led to an unusual opportunity to become a "dynamic simulation actor" for several branches of law enforcement including Canadian Border Services, The Ontario Police College (where I participated in the training of cadets for almost 10 years) and for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. My ability to perform authentic improvisations under great pressure (including at gunpoint and through all manner of chaos) during simulated domestic attacks, drunk and disorderly scenarios, break-and-enters, roadside traffic stops, and armed robberies made me a preferred actor for several high-stakes training programs.
My transition into film began when I was cast as an actor for a very low-budget feature. By the end of that three-month shoot, I had become good friends with the director and producer and was working as a prop maker, location scout, set decorator, and eventually, a producer of the project. Immediately in love with filmmaking, I then began collecting filmmaking skills and experience that I continue to leverage to this day: prop design and fabrication, costume design, location scouting, set decorating, set design and construction, producing, directing, and what has now become the focus of my professional life, writing - specifically screenwriting.
If you think I might be able to help you on your journey as a cinematic storyteller, please contact me to schedule a friendly, no-obligation consultation. I'd love to chat and explore what's possible together.
Cheers,

- Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-BelieveThis feature-length documentary began as a passion project between myself and my good friend and often collaborator, Rob McCallum. Rob wrote and directed and I wrote and produced. I also appear on screen as a "Canadian Pop Culture Historian" and speak about the early life of Ernie Coombs before he became famous as TV's Mr. Dressup. It is a loving look back at the incredible history and cultural impact of Canada's most beloved TV show ever, Mr. Dressup. Mr. Dressup ran for 29 years, produced ov

Screenwriting CoachThe Screenplay Factory
London, CanadaFull Time
I'm a screenwriting coach and instructor, helping to mentor new and emerging screenwriters. There are two categories of engagement that are typical when I work with a writer: they either need help breaking their concept and composing a robust and effective outline for it which will set them up for success as they prepare to tackle a first draft, or they need ongoing weekly or bi-weekly coaching through the entire process from first ideas to completed script.
