About me
I am an aspiring Journalist/documentary maker who has finished four years at The University of Winchester. During my first three years of university, I studied for a Bachelor's Honours in Broadcast Sports Journalism before studying for an MA degree in Social Media Management. For my Bachelor Honour’s dissertation, I was able to create a twenty-minute documentary of my choice. I created the film: Women’s Football: A New Era, a documentary that dives into the history of women's football, to further understand the growth that the sport has had in the past ten years, and why it was in the shadows for so long previously. My MA dissertation enabled me to gather a thorough understanding of AI, as I chose to write about Emotional AI’s impact on social media algorithms, and what the public's attitude towards the technology was. My time at university provided me with transferable skills that can be utilised within the creative industry as well as other workplaces. Presenting, editing, planning, AI, and camera work are all examples of skills and experiences that I have gathered during my time at university. As well as this, I have had a variety of jobs that carry other skills in their own right. Previously, I worked as a journalist for the Hampshire Chronicle which tested me in a busy and pressured environment, in addition to refining my writing skills. Most recently, I have been a care worker for people with disabilities, which has vastly improved my timing and polished my social skills in what can be quite a stressful environment as well. I am an innovative and creative person, yet also hard-working and organised.

I chose to study for a master’s degree in Social Media Management because I believed that it linked with my previous degree and that if I entered the world of social media, there would be more variety of creative avenues to pursue. I particularly enjoyed my master’s degree experience and its range of modules. My research methods for the media managers module introduced me to AI and how it can be incorporated into various activities. During my freelancer and entrepreneurship module, I found it interesting how I could incorporate AI into freelancing and include this in my career prospects. After a couple of meetings with my lecturers, I eventually narrowed down and concluded that my interests and previous experience warrant going into the creative industry. The two modules I mentioned, in particular, built up my skills to begin my journey in this industry whilst building my expertise in AI, pitching, and project management.

Throughout the three years of this degree, I enjoyed many aspects, such as the creative side of planning, filming, and interviewing people for local news and sports videos. It motivated me to keep trying to find the most interesting stories around Winchester, whether they were sport-related or not. Although I still love sports, my interests over the three years of my undergraduate degree had spread to other topical sectors of journalism such as culture, fashion, nature, music, and travel. For my dissertation, I was allowed to make a twenty-minute documentary, which required me to write, direct, plan, film, and edit everything until there was a finished product. I thoroughly enjoyed this process, and it gave me my first experience of what working as a freelance documentarian would be like. Throughout this process, I made many mistakes, which have been a learning curve, and they are experiences that I will take with me in my career. Over the last year or so, my previous mistakes have encouraged me to improve upon my organisation and planning skills.
