I love to work creatively something I have come to appreciate and explore from my time at Brunel University London and take extra enjoyment in the arts and performance. I’m a positive, enthusiastic, and organised person, I love to work collaboratively as I have done countless times in my university performances and within my professional roles. My work at The Nursery Window has helped me to develop excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Also, while maintaining this job throughout my time at University it has helped me to gain confidence and to organise my time extremely effectively. Moving on from my time at The Nursery Window, I had a wonderful opportunity to work within an arts-based environment with the charity, Creative Youth. This experience was one where I particularly thrived and was able to learn useful new skills such as public engagement, budgeting and presentational skills.
Handled the day to day running of the shop, dealing with customers, dispatching orders, and designing window displays as well as coordinating and updating our social media platforms in particular, Instagram. I was put in charge of setting up our new website including layout design and formatting for launch in Nov 2016. Alongside this I coordinated the set up of a new accounting system that was to be integrated in the new website.
Assisting the Marketing Manager, I worked on a full time basis to successfully market and increase the local and international profile of Kingston's International Youth Arts Festival. Some duties included, writing up press releases about the festival for local and national magazines, handling daily social media outputs, assisting participating companies in the marketing of their shows. More specifically, I assisting in designing and approving company posters and flyers for display and distribution at festival venues and in local businesses.
I worked within the Virgin Media department collecting overdue broadband payments via telephone. Regularly updated customer accounts and handled queries and complaints.
Modules undertaken as part of my course included, Acting, Physical Theatre, Directing, Musical Theatre, Perspectives, Performance as Research, Applied Theatre, and Professional Development which included a 70 hour work placement. During my time at Brunel, I worked as a student ambassador for the Theatre course, welcoming potential students during open days and answering queries. I also received a Brunel Music Award which provided me with free singing tuition during my final year. In March 2017, I was invited back to Brunel to work as an Assistant Director for the Advanced Musical Theatre's production of Spring Awakening.
