Studio & Project DirectorStudio Tord Boontje
- London, United KingdomFull Time
I joined industrial product designer Tord Boontje to set up his studio in Southwark following his appointment as Head of Design Products at the Royal College of Art.
Back then it was just the two of us.
During my time there, we hired a small team of exceptional designers, for 5 years ran a shop in Shoreditch selling our designs, and worked on a multitude of projects with great clients.
Highlights:
- Project managing Electrocraft, an exhibition about technology and beautifully made objects which coincided with London Design Festival 2016. It involved establishing the overall timeline from conception to realisation, coordinating 27 exhibitors, working with the graphic designers, exhibition designers and manufacturers, coordinating exhibition sponsors, setting up a website, and organising events and press.
- Overhauling the studio website - twice. The first was when I joined Tord and it allowed me to gain an early understanding of the full breadth of work.
On deciding to redesign the website again in 2017, I established the requirements, how we wanted to present the studio and the language we should adopt. Following online research, I prepared the brief to share with our web developer, working with him until the site went live. Once set up, I was responsible for managing all content.
- A trip to Swarovski Crystal World in Austria to help with the installation of our Winter Pavilion. The studio team prepared elements for install and directed the external production team. I enjoyed being physically involved in the installation, whilst visiting the beautiful surroundings of Swarovski, a long-term client of the studio.
- Opening and running the Tord Boontje Shop and online shop, establishing all the systems and licences required and managing the shop staff. The opportunity to engage with the end users of our designs was incredibly rewarding.
