About me
Within Kathryn's practice she specialises in knitwear taking inspiration from personal experiences and a sense of place. Kathryn’s work is often influenced by a surface details and textures. Her work heavily features bold colours and patterns as she challenges traditional knitwear techniques such as intarsia. Kathryn also has a varied skill set within virtual sampling and design development. Gaining extensive knowledge of the Shima Seiki Apex system during her previous industry experience. Throughout her MA Kathryn has pushed her Shima knowledge further into machine programming and machine operation, allowing her to have an understanding of the entire design development process.
Projects
  • MiSisan
MiSisan Mī s̄īs̄ạn Kathryn explored images taken in Thailand focusing on the bold colours and patterns within Buddhist temples. Utilising both intarsia on the Brother Machine and jacquard on the Shima Seiki Apex 3 system.
  • Colour Regeneration
Colour Regeneration Colour Regeneration explores the abandoned surfaces within urban areas focusing on the rejuvenating power of colour. The influence of colour is pivotal to the reincarnation of the lost and forgotten textures; which have a strong translation through to the knitted pieces which utilise both conventional and less traditional yarn.
