About me
I like words (have a look at my portfolio in my website link). And I like people. I’m a natural performer, both in presentations and plays. I like being part of a team on a project, but also running off to a corner to hone in on the details. I’m looking for an opportunity to express and build on my creativity, with my trusty pen at the ready.

Work history
    Junior Content Writer
    London, United KingdomFull Time
The Writer is the world’s largest brand language consultancy. I started there as ‘Office ace’ – an assistant to the office manager. After ten months, I became a Junior Writer, the first person to make the switch. Since then, I’ve worked with companies to create their tone of voice, name their products and rewrite their copy. I’ve run workshops, led naming projects and challenged my clients on the language they use. I’ve ‘inspired’ British Gas with my writing skills I spent three months in-house with British Gas, restructuring and rewriting the content for the new Help section of their website. By the end, we’d cut down over 300 pages to under 100. And they had 22% less customer calls in the first month alone. But my main success was convincing their legal team the words could change. As the client said: ‘Kathryn suggested using a traffic light system and it’s helped legal and us. She attended our weekly meetings with our head of legal, provided feedback on their work and helped the relationship. I now enjoy these meetings.’ This work also meant I was nominated for the ‘Emerging Writer’ award at 26’s Wordstock this year. I can write for a range of styles Like explaining science for Unilever, talking about sensitive topics for BT, and charming customers into buying or selling their home for Savills. And that’s just for starters. I can think of things in context I’ve been part of the Brand Guardianship team at O2 for eight months. That means I’ve worked with O2 Brand, O2 Legal, and the design team at Lambie-Nairn every day to look at all the material that goes out the door with O2’s logo on. So I’m good at sifting through details and thinking about who will see what, and where. I can adjust to different roles Most recently, I’ve worked with RBS and NatWest to help them develop their tone of voice. Looking at what’s come before, and finding the right way for them to talk to today’s banking customers. All while managing The Writer’s two apprentices – I make sure they have things to do and they’re feeling supported, challenged and encouraged. I can juggle clients and deadlines Life at The Writer is fast-paced, and has taught me to juggle lots of projects at once. I know how to switch from one tone of voice to another without getting whiplash. I know how to look at a document and give a realistic estimate of how long it’ll take me to change. And I know how to work in a busy and distracting office

I made sure fifty people’s travel, tech and room needs were all in hand. And I was the face of The Writer, the person clients first met on reception. I put people at ease quickly and learnt to anticipate what they wanted. But most importantly, I picked up The Writer’s tone of voice and sent emails that earned me two company writing awards. I asked to become a writer and passed a freelance writing test they only gave to experienced writers.
